Acute Care of Trauma
Our office provides a wide range of care for acute injury, such as lacerations, facial fractures, and tissue defects. This care is usually provided after or in conjunction with an emergency room evaluation and referral. Multiple procedures are available, including laceration closure, skin grafts, skin or muscle flaps, or repositioning and supportive fractures of the facial bones. Both acute care (at the time of injury) and later reconstruction or revision procedures are available. Evaluation and referral may be accomplished by your family doctor or emergency room personnel as appropriate.
Scar treatment involves all injuries to the outer layer of the skin that results in scar formation with healing. In some circumstances, the amount of visible change associated with this scarring can be problematic. Several procedures are available that may be helpful in decreasing the prominence of a scar. Care can include excision and secondary closure, laser treatment, and intense pulsed light treatment to improve the appearance of the scar. The specific treatment and amount of improvement to be expected can only be determined by office consultation and evaluation of each individual scar.
